We all have our selfish times, it's all about me, me, me. Instead of "me" lets make it a "we". Most of the tragedies you've read about have already happened, so you may be asking yourself "what can we do now?". You can do a lot actually! Although I wish I could say that genocide is a part of the past and that the world is putting an end to it, it's not, at all.
We live in the 21st century and to this day we have not just one or two of these tragedies occurring, but multiple places including: Sudan, Iraq, Somalia, Central African Republic, Myanmar Rakhine, Myanmar Kachin, Nigeria & Burundi.
Make a donation, spread awareness and most importantly don't allow the media to fool you, do your research and see what's going on in our crazy world!
As for the survivors of past genocides, help them as well! Many people aren't aware of the effects of going through such a frightening experience such as genocide. Your neighbor, your roommate or heck, even your girlfriend could be a survivor and you don't even know it! Those who do face genocide and survive, go through many difficulties even after leaving that said country. Survivors of genocide go through the difficulties of adjusting to a new place, go through the aftermath of losing family, and many psychological disorders such as PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), anxiety, depression, substance abuse and much more. By living in a world in which clearly racism and genocide are still evident, our help should be never-ending. First things first, knowing your facts on a situation across the world is highly important (thanks media, you suck), next is spread as much awareness as possible! It's crazy to think that some people are still in denial that such things happened and are continuing to happen!
Visit http://genocidewatch.net/ for information on each and every country, as well as how you can support those who have gone through/are going through this tragedy and get involved! This site is amazing for genocide watch and to see what we could do to prevent other countries from going through such incidents as well as help those who have and who are at this very minute. This website allows you to make a donation or get involved however you feel fitted or comfortable with!
